The Oregon Health Sciences University (OHSU) website has just been updated with a Q&A about bicycle access on the new tram and South Waterfront area.
They’ve published their answers to the following:
- Will bikes be allowed on the Portland Aerial Tram?
- What accommodations are available in South Waterfront for bikes?
- What about showers at South Waterfront?
- How will bike commuters get from the upper Tram station to the road?
- What accommodations are available on Marquam Hill for bikes?
- What shower facilities are available on the hill?
- Are there any statistics available on theft of bikes at OHSU?
Now go read the answers.
I’m scheduled to take a grand tour of these facilities so stay tuned for more on OHSU’s bike-friendliness (or not).
(OH)SU-Bomb!
OHSU ZOOBOMB!!!!!!
Kudos to OHSU for not only encouraging bikes on the tram, but also providing secured parking in the garage. I work for one of the biggest employers in the area, and it’s all we can do to get the staple racks moved under cover. OHSU is setting a fine example of how to be a bike-friendly employer in Portland.
oh, i hope y’all do zoobomb us. we need the fun. be careful, though. the road down is crazy twisty.
the answers raised another question: what the heck is a “bike gutter”?
I’d like to know what a bike gutter is as well. I’ve seen a “bike gutter” type contraption on the steps next to 200 market. Is that what they are refering to? If so, it’s really not worth bosting about.
I think a bike gutter is simply a little gutter adjacent to stairs that allow you to easily push your bike up, without having to carry it.
I think there is a bike gutter on the south side of Hollywood Transit Center overpass.
It’s definitely not a groundbreaking or amazing thing…but it does make stairs more negotiable.
There’s also one on the stairs leading up to the burnside bridge from the esplanade.
I find they are rather ineffective, though, as your pedals nearly always hit and catch the side.
Tear Down the Tram. The Tram is a big, gaudy joke, always has been, always will be.
The best thing we can do is keep riding up the hill, and clog it up with bicycles everyday.
