Polo players need bikes

I’m a huge fan of bike polo. I played once this summer and it took about a week for my grin to wear off. Now I get word from Dabby that they’re running low on polo bikes. The problem is that they’re very hard on equipment and the bikes they use are modified specifically for polo. Six bikes are needed to play and currently they’ve got only 5.

I’ll let Dabby fill you in on the details, in his usual style…

Over here, in the NE, things happen quick. One minute you are pedaling your butt around a tennis court, having a good day, then BAM! Out of nowhere, you get T-boned in the rear wheel by someone else. Momentum stops, your body goes flying, the game is at a momentary standstill.

Upon inspection, the wheel appears to be tacoed, I am probably going to smash it on the ground so we can continue. The dropouts will probably need to be bent back, using a big wrench, or whatever is around. Sometimes they just plain snap. No longer a bike. The worst part about this is the fact that this is the first game, we need 6 bikes to play, and we now have 5.

So goes the saga of bike polo. We ride bikes of course. And don’t get me wrong, we LOVE bikes….but, we love them too much. We ride them into the ground. Now we are to the point, in such a bike-y town, that polo bikes and wheels are getting harder and harder to find.

I am asking for the help of you, fellow bike lover, to donate your old wheels, that MTB or road frame, some MTB handlebars, you know, polo parts. Heck even complete mountain bikes. Maybe you have already ridden the hellout of it, and you have parts you love more now. Well, here at bike polo your parts will get the well deserved respect and thrills that they deserve. We will love them too death.

Of course, with the skill and speed of our game, as I am sure many of you have witnessed, we require parts of a certain rollabilty (yes I just made that word up!). So, if you aren’t using it because it is ruined, or barely rolls, we won’t be able to use it either. After all, we are just underpaid pack mules anyway. We want to buy a whole fleet from Redline, but I checked, and the temperature in hell just isn’t dropping at all.

So, in conclucsion, we at Bike Polo never ask for much, except to be left alone in the park to play our silly game. But, now , I, am taking it upon myself to ask. Dam, I may even personally be able to give cash out of my pocket for your parts. Hold on while I count this change…….

Please fell free to email me, Dabby, at johnnyrocket29[at]yahoo[dot]com

I will gladly pick up any donations you have…..

Thanks,
Dabby McCrashalot

well, once i get another frame, i have one that they can use. tonight while putting my bike on the rack at work, i noticed that the main post on my frame broke off from the bottom braket housing. i believe it happened today. I felt something while riding and that was probably it. It’s still ridable, as I rode it home this morning and then road it to work tonight and didn’t notice anything, really.
though, i am sad, since i just picked this bike up 2 weeks ago.

We may be able to use it, as some of us weld, would like to take a look at it.
As I have said though, if it is broken too much for you to ride around town, we probably wont be able to play polo on it..

I don’t know. I think it’s done for. I rode it that morning just 2 blocks after i got off the bus and it was very floaty.
I do have two other like kind of mtb’s at my house that i can just bring to games for use.
They’re one of my roommate’s dad’s. I thought he gave them to us, but i guess they’re only for using. I’ll have to see if he wants to sell them to me.
