‘Mujeres en Movimiento’ group brings out the bike-fun smiles

A pair of Portlanders have organized a new group aimed at giving Latinas regular events for riding bikes together.

“There is this conversation about, ‘People of color don’t bike,’” said Lale Santelices, one of the organizers. “But that’s not my expericence.”

Cully’s Andando en Bicicletas club welcomes new members with repair workshop

Three years after Portland’s Community Cycling Center teamed up with the low-income Northeast Portland housing development Hacienda CDC to learn about the barriers to bike use in that community, some of those walls are falling down.

We’ve been hearing for months about the Cully neighborhood’s new bike club, Andando en Bicicletas en Cully, a mostly Spanish-speaking group from in and around the Hacienda development who ride bikes together and have been organizing to improve biking in their area. On Tuesday, I headed up to check out one of their events.

Portlanders show off bikes, fashion at ‘Dress Like Your Bike’ party (photos)

Did you ever start to realize that you’ve begun to physically resemble your bicycle?

That was the question of the night in a North Portland bike shop Wednesday as dozens of bike riders coordinated their color choices to pose for free shots from a local fashion photographer.
