Be careful when walking-1

Photo of NW Marshall and 10th in the Pearl District. I thought it was Oregon law that cars had to stop... so why would someone put this sign here?

Yeah, that kind of bs happens in Chicago, too. Our law says cars have to stop for people in the street, whether in marked or unmarked crosswalks. Weird, what is an unmarked crosswalk? The entire block?

I reckon some peds are just waltzing into the cross walk. Best to time your crossing so that traffic has time to stop for you. Wait for a bit of a gap, establish eye contact with drivers, etc. For example if a ped started walking .75 seconds before this frame was shot, they'd probably get hit and it wouldn't necessarily be the motorist's fault.
