What a stupid sign. That doesn't even look like a train track in the symbol, and the bike is perpendicular to the train track (the best way to cross). This sign doesn't tell me anything useful, like how I might successfully maneuver around the train tracks.

i think it says... "something in the road ahead that could throw you off your bike" . it might not be the best sign, but it serves its purpose.

It serves its purpose for people who know what it means. The sign could also mean, "Ahead, you will be thrown off your bike." This sign in Seattle is equally unhelpful: [http://www.flickr.com/photos/jamesbondsv/4661395601/]
