It's shit like this that turns people off to cycling. Just ride your bike, no need to call others slaves.

We're all slaves to gas. Gas prices directly impact food prices and that of other commodities.

[http://www.flickr.com/photos/jamesbondsv] By that logic we are all slaves to the Earth as well. And emotions, and the stock market, and ........ WE ARE ALL SLAVES. Why doesn't the patch say "We are slaves to gas"? Because the rider wanted to feel superior to others. Smug and cycling still goes hand in hand, I hate it.

agreed, i hate the smug bs. fossil fuels are thoroughly interwoven in nearly every aspect of our lives. don't act like your shit doesn't stink cause you rode a few miles to work.

If you're offended by this photo, you're driving too much ;-)

[http://www.flickr.com/photos/brewcaster] Come on ... you could say the same thing about a bumper sticker you dislike - "that's what turns people off to driving".

name calling won't get you anywhere and probably isn't the best approach for dealing with aggressive drivers operating 2000 lb vehicles with 300 horsepower engines . I'd think the message would be more compelling if it said something like "i am saving $4.50/gallon on gas" or "VIP Parking, Always" .

Can't hurt to encourage people to drive less. Fortunately I live in Singapore where I have not needed a car for 7 years. Off cause the trek cargo bike I'm about to buy made in china I feel bit guilty also. But all of our consumption can be seen as negative in some way. Essential problem in the whole debate is human over population, nature will eventually solve that problem.
