Fighting for fixed gears in court

A traffic court Judge in Portland Oregon has decided that fixed gears "must have a separate braking device" and that the gear (and the riders legs) are not sufficient. Read the full story on BikePortland.org.

This is stupid, surely a fixed gear is a brake; and surely you have the choice to ride a fixed gear, just liek you have a choice to ride the bus. If you don't take your life into your hands then who does? It smacks of America to me, typical Americans in high places; maybe he thinks God doesn't ride Fixie?? He'd be wrong!
