Default SW Skyline, almost a head-on

On 3/7/2007 I was riding home from work on SW Skyline, heading downhill toward Sylvan at (or maybe a bit above) the 25 mph speed limit.

The driver of a small gray sedan (OR license ZKE931) came up behind me going much faster than I was... I'd guess at least 35 - 40 mph in a 25 zone.

Then just as we rounded the hairpin blind curve at Skyline & Fairview the driver pulled out and passed me. Problem was... there was oncoming traffic. I hit my brakes hard as the driver cut back over to the right side of the road.

This was just the worst case recently of a frequent hazard: drivers who feel compelled to pass cyclists even when the bike is going the speed limit and even when there is little or no sight-distance to ensure a safe pass.

I tried to keep up with the driver... but my old legs won't do much above 30 mph on that stretch of road... and the car disappeared as we apprached the Sylvan overpass. I immediately called 9-1-1 to report the incident, but never heard whether the car was sighted.

The next day, I sent a report to people at PDOT... who said they would send a warning letter to the registered owner.
