Default Soma frames

Does anyone here have any experience with Soma frames? They seem like a good deal. I'm currently planning a commuter bike and trying to decide between building around a Soma or Surly frame or buying a complete bike such as the Bianchi Volpe. Thanks.

I don't have any experience with either but I know that Revolver Bikes in North Portland (on Interstate) sells a lot of them. The owner's name is Mark...he'll be happy to answer your questions:

Thanks for the pointer. I spoke with a Soma dealer (not Revolver) who did not recommend the frames. He said Soma's build quality is inconsistent and he's had to return several frames to the company. Also, compared to Surly, the overall build quality is not as high. Soma frames might be a good deal when and if they get their act together, but for now, I think I'll pass.

i built up a soma double cross (small, 44cm) for my girlfriend (got it from mark at revolver) and i thought it was fine and my gf totally loves it. and for her birthday we got a *grocery rack* from our buddy joseph of Ahearne Cycles and she loves that too...

if i were to choose between soma and surly for myself i'd get a soma but this may be cuz i have a surly myself. hmmm.
