Default bike-friend airlines?

Hi. Does anyone know if any airline DOESN'T charge extra for checking in a bike?

get a wheel box, and a frame box, and say its your "art". Not as easy, but it saves

Domestically, I think they all do charge extra for a bike. On international flights, they often waive the fee. But, beware, if you have an international flight that requires connecting with multiple airlines, the other airlines may not honor the fee waiver. My wife and I learned this the hard way last year in Florence, Italy, where we had to pungle up 150 euros to get our bikes back home. Best to check this out up front when making reservations.

Domestically I don't even bother with the airlines. I've had alot better luck just shipping my mike to whatever hotel im staying at in the event town. FedEx lately has had some reasonable rates for oversize 2 bike boxes.

i flew northwest airlines recently,
i put my bike in two boxes that fit the size limitations.
the first guy i talked to wanted to charge me,
but the next guy said it was cool as long as it was "bike parts"
not a full bike
