Sounds like a brilliant idea!

It takes some nut job with Obsessive Compulsive Disorder to really make things like this work, however. :)

Default we've already done it!

Portland hosted BikeSummer back in 2002 I believe...and after that it morphed into Pedalpalooza which is now bigger and better than BikeSummer.

You'll be hearing more about Pedalpalooza very soon...for now you can browse the blog I maintained during last year's fest

And check out all the photos here:

Default elaborating on Jonathan's reply

BikeSummer is still BikeSummer, it is an international festival of cycling events and happens in a different city each year:

The Bike Fun organization Shift was created to perpetuate the Bike Fun that transpired here during BikeSummer 2002, the year BikeSummer was held in Portland. In June 2003, we had MiniBikeSummer, a cooperative effort of Shift and Zoobomb which was inspired by BikeSummer. The next year, to the chagrin of many, the name "Pedalpalooza" was chosen, to give the by-then yearly festival it's own identity distinct from BikeSummer. It has been called Pedalpalooza ever since, and people from Shift, Zoobomb, C.H.U.N.K. 666, Axles of Evil, and other groups, also many individuals with no affiliation, participate in creating the festival.

We've started the planning for Pedalpalooza 2006, it's going to be HUGE. Last year, we had more events than any bike festival anywhere on the planet that was not a month-long festival, and the entire thing is volunteer-powered. If you're interested in participating, write to bikefun@shift2bikes.org, also visit www.shift2bikes.org for updates.
