Some big changes for me have occurred recently. Now, I'm Praying about possibly packing up and checking out more of the world again (this time not as a warrior). So, rather than heading east to Europe (again), I'm thinking about heading west to Asia. Now, this isn't something that's going to happen overnight. However I'm looking for more information on living in, and cycling around the ROC.

FWIW: It's been (eek!) nearly 40 years since I was in Taiwan, so I'm probably not much help. Besides, a skinny red-haired kid walking the back streets of Taipei attracted more attention than a parade of Elvises here in Portland. For travel (non-cycling) in and around China, I can put you in touch with my dad. He's been back and forth many times since we went as a family: http://china.usc.edu/ShowArticle.aspx?articleID=893 . For more current cycling information, too bad you missed the Biking Barkleys: http://www.crazyguyonabike.com/doc/bikingbarkleys . They put on a presentation here a couple months ago.

Taiwan is the Republic of China (ROC). Mainland China (including Beijing) is the People's Republic of China (PRC). Both use Mandarin as their primary language. FYI 800,000,000+ people speak Mandarin. Hong Kong uses Cantonese.

In Taiwan, in the big cities, beware of scooters. Millions and millions of scooters.
