Yesterday on my way home from work, myself and other commuters were stopped at the Hawthorne bridge for 5-10 minutes while a car commercial was being filmed on the bridge. The cops suggested that either we wait until they let us cross or take the Morrisson Bridge to the east side instead. Correct me if I'm wrong, but aren't non-motorized vehicles illegal on the Morrisson Bridge? (And if they aren't I'd still be scared shitless to ride across that thing!)

The steel grate on that bridge is SCARY. I crossed it after dark one day after a light rain, and it was no fun at all.
For the Bridge Pedal it was covered with plywood to prevent moms and kiddies from getting hurt. |

I got caught in that too. The cops eventually got "permission" from the company shooting the commercial to allow bikes and peds to cross the bridge.
I'm not miffed if bike companies get equal access. The next Trek Portland photo shoot should shut down the Marquam Bridge for a couple hours on some Thursday evening. |
