Someone on the main blog mentioned that is is possible to reach Astoria from Portland on Dirt/Gravel roads, only crossing paved ones. Any ideas?
There are lots of Forest Service looking roads out there, but I can't make them all connect. Thanks |

Psy, there's a'plenty o' dirt road out thar..!
some reference maps that you might find useful in finding a route: - either/both of the Oregon atlases, one by Benchmark and one by DeLorme. the Mult Co library may have them..? they're both pretty detailed, the Delorme maybe more so - - the BLM map titled "Salem westside" (i think?) - shows this area unfortunately the really large-scale Tillamook forest map doesn't go this far north. hope this helps a bit - |

"Salem District Westside"
I have not got it yet, so I don't know what it shows exactly. |

ok, I pulled mine out - and believe me finding anything in my map drawer is a task -
it shows from McMinville north to the Columbia, and Portland west to the coast on one side; from Mac down to (almost) Eugene on the other. it's huge, you could use it for an emergency tarp. 1/2" = 1 mile scale. Likely available at Nature of the NW, or the BLM office is you can track those shysters down. |
