I should stay away from YouTube, I'm finding all kinds of fun stuff (and not getting any sleep), like this little gem... It's a YouTube Bike Channel, and it has a news report on a guy riding a hybrid bicycle.
I personally am a bit of a purist (IMHO assisted miles don't count). So, I don't see myself w/electric assist for many years, but I like the freedom that a bike offers, and this just looks like a cool way to go. Rubberside Down! K'Tesh Last edited by K'Tesh; 01-13-2008 at 01:55 AM. |

This is really a cool looking kinetic sculpture... nothing at all to do with cycling, but it doesn't use gas/electric eather...

If I pedal 20 miles up a hill and then coast 20 miles down the hill, did I pedal 40 miles.

I hope the sun comes out soon, K-Tesh... seems you are about to peek with Cabin Fever.
Beauftiful afternoon on the westside today... Finally got out with my wife on her new Catrike. Sure is nice having a riding partner! |

Mike... 20 miles uphill and 20 miles coasting downhill equals fifty miles of work. It's part of the new math... just ask your son in 7th grade and he will explain.

Would you really coast downhill for 20 miles? Without pedaling? Downhill doesn't have to be as much work as uphill, but it's still work. I know if I didn't pedal downhill, something bad would happen. For one thing, I think my sit spot would get w-a-a-a-y more of a workout than I'd ever care to experience. Either that, or my legs would cramp up.
I didn't yet look at the links K'Tesh posted, but electic assist certainly does have some appeal, as installed in certain bike vehicles or human powered vehicles. I'm thinking of that one I saw last summer down at Jamieson Square; a bent with fancy fiberglass cockpit, electic computerized, programmable rear wheel assist. Except for the money, I could see many different kinds of people, including myself, falling in love with something like that. Certainly would help to negate the downside of wet Oregon winters and hills. Look for some dry, sunny weather this week! Woo-hoo! |

electric assist is the fastest growing segment worldwide in the bike industry, second only to cargo/utility cycling. Combine the two and BOOM, we could kill the car.

I'm drooling and wondering how I could afford this kind of ride. Anyone know the link to the German motor hub in the hybrid video? Bigfoot |
