Was riding down (NB) SW 6th in PDX (
link to google streetview) on Tuesday when I had another close call with a cager... Didn't end so bad for me, but could have for him.
So, there I was, going downhill in center of the through lane, (with a car close in on my tail), when the light turned green. As it was, I was the lead vehicle so I kept rolling. Then the car on my left (in the left hand turn lane) continues past the turn, and tries to muscle over into my lane (there was a parked car directly in front of them on the far side of the intersection). When I realized that this turkey was trying to merge into my lane, I looked through the open passenger window, and yelled "
HEY!!!"
Next thing I hear is the screech of locking up brakes (no rending metal, breaking glass, or other collision noises) and what could have been a loud curse, and I maintained my position. Looking back in my mirror, I could see turkey stopped behind the parked car, stuck by all the cars following me. They never stood a chance of catching up w/me, and I made my way home safely.
