Anyone know what's up with the Steel Bridge sidewalk crossing? It was closed yesterday during morning & evening commutes, and still is closed this morning. Another cyclist suggested it might be due to high water levels, but the floating part of the esplanade is still open.

Its been this way for about a month now. The City had signs that it was closed because they were working on it, but there seems to be no more rhyme or reason to it.

I read somewhere that it is due to the cameras that allow the bridge operator to see if anyone is on the lower ped/bike sidewalk are not functioning. The bridge operator has to be able to tell if the sidewalk is unoccupied before beginning a lift, so they've closed it until the cameras can be fixed.

here's the link to the March closure press release - camera malfunction - but it is updated to say that the bridge re-opened on 3/21.
