Thumbs up Closing a gap... SW Durham Rd @ SW Hall/SW 85th

Years ago, I complained about the missing segment of bike lane on Tigard's SW Durham Rd. (EB at the SW Hall/SW 85th intersection). I remember riding in the bike lane, and then feeling squeezed by a passing car because the white line that reminds them of my right to be on the road was absent.

Mind you, I know, first hand, that a bike lane isn't a magic wall that prevents crashes.

That said, as I was riding home from my chiropractic appointment yesterday, I was spotted by Tigard's Sr. Project Engineer for Streets and Transportation, Mike McCarthy. He called me over to tell me that the missing bike lane should be painted for us in the next few weeks. Mind you, the lane will get a little narrow (by the big oak tree), but it will be painted.

Since he was there, I pointed out the black hole storm drain grates that were on SW Durham as well, and he's going to have the paint crew paint warning stripes for us too.

Unfortunately the black hole grates on SW Hall fall into ODOT's responsibility, not Tigard's.

yes, that drain is in the bike lane...
