I wanna get back to my little grass shack on the islands of Hawaii, where the humuhumunukunukuapua'a go swimming by... I'm just a little Hawaiian, and homesick island boy who wants to get back to his fish and poi...
Was surfing the web looking for cool things to do and came up with this: ![]() Volcano Bike Tours Looks like a lot of fun, but has anybody done this? Mahalo K'Tesh (and yes, I can say Humuhumunukunukuapua'a) Mele Kalikimaka

Actually, a friend and I have circled the Caldera on the Crater Rim Road.
Unfortunately, the winds shifted and instead of the gas heading (S-SW) out to the SW rift zone as we passed it on the bottom of the downhill, it shifted East over the long climb back up a hill. We were half dead by the time we got back to the rain forest. ![]() On this map, its downhill between Jagger and where it says "Crater Rim Drive" going CCW. You can actually see either the gas plume or its effects on that image. Doing it CW might be better. |

I will certainly be doing the Bike Hawaii 100% Downhill Mountain Bike tour. More on that later. Rubberside Down! K'Tesh |

Re: Big Island Volcano tours and the Crater Rim Road:
They've closed the Crater Rim road from Devastation Trail all the way to the Jagger Museum (the South arc of the road). Seems the plume of volcanic gasses covers most of the road that way and the folks in charge want to keep people from breathing it too much. Still: it's beautiful there (we just got back), lots of opportunities for biking, and it looked to me like a lot of the drivers are very courteous to bikers. Even tourist-drivers! |
