Anyone have any good loops they ride around Portland? I'm getting bored of doing the Springwater Trail! I live near Hawthorne and 50th in SE, so it would be ideal to leave from there (but can also pack up my bike and start further if needed). Somewhere in the 20-30 mile ride range would be ideal!

Have you checked out maps for the "40-mile loop"? I'd recommend going north on Williams, then cut over to Vancouver up to a route to take you over to NE 13th and up north to NE Marine to go along the Columbia river all the way out to Gresham and further or over the Glen Jackson (that climb sucks with the summer headwind!) over to the 'couv.

A couple of resources:
http://www.oregon.com/trips/cycle_portland.cfm http://www.pwtc.com/index.php/club/more/links/ I like the Lake Oswego loop (these are not detailed instructions): -Get a map -Go downtown -Take broadway south and find your way onto Terwilliger Blvd (Goes by OHSU) -Head south until you reach LO -Go around the lake -Come back It is usually around 35 miles |

Head over to the 205 path north to Marine Drive then west to Kelley Point Park, loop around by Smith & Bybee Lakes, over to Portsmouth, down Willamette Blvd, Greeley, Interstate, the Esplanade, and back home.

I think this'll be longer than the OP's request for 20 to 30 mile loops, but it's an easy introduction to riding on this side of the river. Jeff |
