I would dearly love to know what kind of design decisions led to a simple web app serving a few hundred thousand users that can't run without a multi-server farm in 2008. $5 says they're missing indexes and running cursors that would make the greenest of php monkeys blush.

LOL for those of you who got confused by techno-gunk, he's saying that the web designers neglected to add the little bells and whistles that allow these kinds of web pages to perform well when there are a lot of data or there are many users.
I for one was concerned when first saw the web page because it smelled like some pretty heavy duty queries were involved to print my home page...things like how many miles everyone on my team and my challenges had. Quote:

They gotta be freakin'
Very depressing so far... but it happens I guess. They're still hard at work on it and for sure there are some people who have not had a very good last couple of weeks. I wouldn't be surprised if a few folks working on this thing go home every night and cry. Been there.
Hopefully the folks putting this all together realize we're a patient bunch for the most part. We're used to interruptions - even on the internet super highway... I hope!

I don't want to cause a sudden rush that crashes the site, but I just got in and posted my rides for the week. I didn't really notice a huge increase in speed or anything but maybe now it's more stable.
