in terms of safety, riding the bridge roadway is probably pretty good, at least during daylight hours --- no intersections/turning vehicles to contend with, and the narrow lanes combined with the steady stream of oncoming traffic makes passing manuevers unlikely.
You just get out in the center of the lane and cork the traffic for the duration of time it takes to cross the bridge -- pretty safe, really, unless of course you get an impatient, homicidal driver right behind you. And, as Rness testified above, you're pretty much guaranteed to be verbally abused by drivers.
