Do. Not. Ride HWY 26. From Mount Hood into Warm Springs - heavy crosswinds very little shoulder, high truck traffic, higher speeds, and nothing to look at. That section of road is a death trap for cyclists. Avoid it like the plague.
Stick with the Estacada to Detroit via HWY 224 and FR 46. Lots more to see.
I'm doing that ride this coming June on my way to Nevada.
