I really like the Stearns route back to the zoo and will go out of my way to get there.
I prefer to use the Naito Pkwy to Overton just N. of the train yard. Then I just head W. to 24th and work my way to Burnside to end up at the Stearns cross-walk/light. Low traffic, gentle climb until the last few blocks.
