46-17 here. I've been happy with this setup for a couple years, but I'm riding fixed. For SS I'd probably go a bit lower since you can coast on the downhill.

I wear mostly dark colored clothing for a few reasons. One, I use lights at night or in low-vis situations, which I think is enough. Second, I don't think wearing bright clothing is going to help...
