meet Seamus
This is Seamus, which is the bike I've ridden off-and-on for ten years, since picking him up at the Vinnie's warehouse in Eugene for $15. It was love at first sight.

Well ... there is at least one law.
Toddistic is partly right. There's no existing law requiring cyclists to wear a helmet (if they're over 16, that is), or to not wear headphones.

I agree 100%. I'm far more concerned with the quality of my components than the weight. Besides, shaving a few pounds off the bike wouldn't matter since I'm often carrying multiple...

I'm just cocky enough to assume you're all *dying* to know what I ended up doing, so here's the scoop:
My brother's ridiculous mountain bike is going back to him, after I take it in for a tune-up....

FWIW: There are signs on the block before those blocks that say "Hotel Zone", and the bike lane changes to a dashed line ... I slow down, but if traffic's light I'll take the lane next to the bike...

cement plant
That block is a lot better than 2-3 years ago, when there was no bike lane; you exited the springwater, and immediately were jostling with cement-truck drivers who clearly didn't want us (bikers)...

Sorry, the forums weren't working for me or I'd have responded sooner. I often bike up the bridge (coming along Broadway on the sidewalk), and (academically) I've assumed I had the right of way, as...

re: taking out the parking; It's never going to happen because of the Kinko's. I used to work on that corner, and I would pretty much take the lane for all of NE 7th between Schuyler and Weidler ......

Building a road bike: advice/recommendations?
Short version:
I'm going to build a road bike; any suggestions on frames?
Long version:
My usual ride is a mid-70's red cruiser (named Seamus), but my new commute (up the Alameda ridge every...

I have a Bell helmet that I bought for exactly this reason--I've got a big head. Hat shopping is tough, helmet shopping was impossible.
I can't remember the exact model I have, but the Citi looks...

Not that big of a problem?
I never really have a big issue with finding a place to stow the helmet. If I'm going grocery shopping, I either put it in the basket or cart, or I just tuck it under my arm. Likewise, at a coffee...

the lazy route
I've always shied away from spending huge amounts of money for incredibly activity-specific items (like $200 bike-only rain gear), so I've always opted for the "lazy" approach:
I'll just pack an...

bike lane tips
I ride the bike lanes a lot on NE Broadway (read the close call I posted and you'll see how nutty they can get), and I've found some rules of thumb that help there (and in other bike lanes around...

RANT: I just get tired of the hipster jerks
I spend a lot of time on NE Broadway (I work there and, until recently, I lived there). I bike up and down Broadway a lot, but I walk just as much.
When I bike on Broadway, I always use the bike...

ne 12th & broadway
This was a few months ago . . .
I was biking down NE Broadway, to work. I turn onto B'way at 19th, and work at 7th. As I approached 12th, the light was red, but it had been red for a bit, so I was...
