bike commute challenge

I ride in from outer SW, taking HWY 99/Barbur almost the whole way in, and getting to work by 6am. Yesterday I saw four riders heading in the opposite direction and one rider behind me heading in...

fatter tires

I switch to fatter tires. Not because I feel like I have more traction but because, as lefty said, it means less dodging of debris. I feel much more confident riding through a pile of leaves while...

I tell them that bike facilities are for the people driving cars, not for those on bicycles. A bike lane keeps me out of their way so they can go faster. If they want me in "their" lane, that's...

My first rain related crash this morning. Actually, I'm not sure I can really call it a crash. I park my bike in a secure grage that is below street level. The entrance to the garage is covered...

I don't know of bottle cage that would ride lower. However I was thinking maybe another option would work for you. If maybe you are trying to attach something else to your frame (something hanging...

Yeah I have a hill right outside my house. Warms me up quick. Only problem is that I work up a pretty good sweat and feel like I'm freezing into a block of ice on the downhill. Brrrr.

This will...

I have a harder time about a third of the way into my commute when I go down a couple big hills. My eyes start to sting and I can barely keep them open. Does anyone wear goggles or something like...

early commute

I have to be at work at 6AM. My commute is 7.34 miles to 10 miles depending on my route. I leave about 5:10AM which gives me a bit of time to wash up and change.

K'tesh, Sorry if you've posted this somewhere else but who do you contact when the street is maintained by ODOT, such as that one on the south side of Barbur in front of McDonalds?

I agree with this part of your statement. The problem is that it comes to the point where the personal attacks interfere with the actual discussion. I don't want to put A.O. on ignore because he...

Well in this case

Most of Barbur/99W is maintain by ODOT. It switches to City of Portland ownership north of the Barbur/ SW View Point Ter intersection. It's City of Portland's from there, to the north, with the...

I ride in from near Tigard and use Barbur. Coming in in the dark at 5:30AM those things always worry me. Worse to me though is the one southbound lane at the bridge right after the Multnomah on...

Great post Poser. It has inspired me to make a bad attempt at poetry..

I don't want to cause a sudden rush that crashes the site, but I just got in and posted my rides for the week. I didn't really notice a huge increase in speed or anything but maybe now it's more...
