Kind of a dumb question about my Cilo frame

I have a late-80s Cilo, which is a Swiss racing bike. I recently brought it up out of the basement, put new tires on it and started riding it again -- I had forgotten how fun cycling could be! I was...

Question Isn't it usually possible to choose another route?

I wasn't sure if this should go here or in the "routes" forum . . .

I know getting anywhere outside of Portland proper can be a challenge; I used to live in SW near the Barbur triangle. But closer...

Downtown . . .

. . . 4th Avenue northbound after the 405, because the new streetcar track runs right down the middle of the right lane. If I try to stay to the right as I would normally do, avoiding construction...

Yes!

OMG -- I suffer from intense performance anxiety. I do absolutely everything I can to assure cross-stopped drivers that I do not see them waiting for me, because if I have to try to launch my classic...

Hmmm

Lol! "Carefreely?" Somehow that doesn't work, either . . . I'll see if I can insert a little icon of some sort to make it car-lessly. Thanks for the heads up.

Thanks!

I really appreciate the support and encouragement. I know I made the right decision but there are certainly moments of doubt. I dread the morning I wake up, grab my hair and shout out, "Oh my god!...

Smile My year of living carlessly: blog and life

So it isn't much so far, but I've started a blog: myyearoflivingcarlessly.blogspot.com, to document my experience of non-car-ownership. There will be plenty about cycling, of course, as it is...

You are absolutely correct about passing on the right on the one way street; I was only pointing out that the writer didn't seem to have read the part of the original post that said the cyclists were...

Us/them, us/them . . .

I am impressed that you guys a) ride into pitched battle for your life every single day, snatching victory from the jaws of death with every spin of your wheels; b) rack up veeeeeery manly quantities...

*sigh*

Thanks, Duncan, for the patronizing review of Speed Limits 101. However:

a) The gentleman who started this thread did not indicate there were any environmental reasons why it was unsafe to go the...

Re: to the fair weather spandex clown, etc.

See, this is a problem. The speed limit in a business district is 20mph. Although going 12-15mph may seem perfectly reasonable to you, it may be perfectly irritating to everyone who is stuck behind...

Nighttime commute from OHSU

:) So . . . I finally did it, and it was so easy I feel silly about all my fretting. I ended up going down Sam Jackson and picking up Terwilliger at the Shell station. I encountered 1 motorcycle on...

Re: Nighttime commute from OHSU

I have taken the tram up the hill during the day. I have also wished it ran later at night! The bus down the hill doesn't run late enough, either.
Update: I bought another, stronger light today and...

Thanks, K'tesh, for the illuminating info!
And Wrinkles . . . I may try staying on Barbur. It's slightly less direct but worth trying.
I'm not comfortable heading alone down Terwilliger at midnight...

Nighttime commute from OHSU to SE

I have seen some discussion of the safest ways to get down from OHSU, but my problem is that I work swing shift, which means heading down the hill at midnight or later. My usual route when I drive is...
