GPS recommendation

Looking for a GPS recommendation. I'm considering the gps device and accompanying mapping software for urban and mt biking.
Thanks in advance

I have a DeLorme PN20 GPS. The best thing about DeLorme's GPS units is they come with DeLorme's Topo USA mapping software which is excellent. I use the PC mapping software to map out a ride, then I can check the elevation profile, and finally download it to my GPS along with appropriate waypoints -- bakeries are my favorite waypoint on tour :-)

The PN40 uses the same maps but has a MUCH faster processor. If you download a lot of map layers (you can load road layers, trail layers, satellite imagery, aerial imagery, topo countours) the PN20 will take a few seconds to redraw; I understand the PN40 is really snappy, but more $.

REI carries the DeLorme GPS units (along with several others).

Cannot recommend the Garmin 205 for your purposes. The mapping features only work after you download your completed ride. Useless for finding your way back after you're lost.

is that the Forerunner 205, Nuvi 205, or Edge 205? (why do they have so many 205 models?!)

I use an old eTrex Venture hiking GPS... not good if you don't know where you're going or where you want to go... but good for getting you back if you're lost because it has a track-back feature...

I'm looking at getting an eTrex Legend HCx or Vista HCx because I want color and mapping and they should fit on my existing handlebar mount...
