Does anyone know if the the i205 bike paths goes all the way to Clackamas Town Center?

Yup, it sure does! Follow it south and you'll eventually hit Sunnyside Rd., which is about as bike unfriendly as you can get. There are a fair number of sidewalks, though.

Sunnyside road, how unfriendly is it. I have to get from highway 212/224 to the bike path on 205. from what i can see, i can cut through from SE 135 over to SE 122nd, and take Sunnyside road to Clackamas Town center, and then back to my home in NE Portland via bike path.

The best route off the 205 bike path to the Clackamas Towne Center is to exit at Monterey st and go down the hill. Then turn left into the bus mall section of the CTC.

The MAX Green line will shut down the 205 bike path.

PDOT/ODOT laid down some nice bike lanes on 92nd, but that's a pretty crappy road between Powell and Foster. So I dunno. No trip to CTC for me, I guess.

No way! I use that trail regularly and hadn't heard about this before now. Wow, that sucks. Thanks for the info.

From reading the TriMet info sheet...

1. The closures begin March '07. The .pdf makes it sound as if the bike path won't be closed in its entirety, but only partially. I have to infer from this that certain sections will be closed for certain periods of time during the construction period.

2. The alternate route is being constructed as a permanent bike route, so once the LRT construction is finished, there will be twice the bike capacity through this corridor. I haven't ridden 92nd for awhile, but it's not too bad. It was the alternate route while the bike bridge was being constructed over Powell (another MAJOR improvement!!!) There are bike lanes between Division and Powell. From there, it's narrower (unless TriMet is adding a shoulder - as I recall, there is right-of-way available through there, but was gravel last time I was there). The Metro BikeThere! map lists it as a "moderate" street in terms of traffic volume and speed.

3. Significant improvements will be made to the existing I-205 bike route.

So, overall, I think things will be better in the long run and it sounds like efforts are being made to maintain a safe corridor during the construction. Maybe I'll go ride out there this weekend and have a look-see and report back.

92nd between Holgate and Foster is narrow and unless PDX is willing to let Lents Park be torn up right by the baseball stadium it's not going to change. They might bar on street parking by the residents, but that seems unlikely, too.

For me the whole street is just too bloody hilly, and it comes to a dead end at about Halsey on the north end and past Johnson Creek it turns into a fairly steep up hill slope.

The consideration really is appreciated but for me 92nd is nowhere near a substitute for the 205 bike path. But I might be a wuss about hills, so don't take my word as gospel heh.

But it is temporary. And hopefully they'll be able to smooth out the southern end of the bike path while they're building the green line. Maybe replace those dang pollen factories just north of Powell while they're at it.

I ride the 205 stretch daily and had been curious why all the heavy equipment started showing up earlier this month. I had no idea this is LRT. I even asked a crewman and he said it was some sort of water project they were working on. Now it all makes sense. They are tearing down houses. Laying pipes. If you ride before 7AM or after 5PM they usually have everything put away. But mid-day there is equipment on the path between foster and Flavel and again in the stretch south from Flavel. There's a lot of activity around Division / Powell, but its not affecting the bike path - yet.

Actually the 205 bike path is now blocked at SE Harold while TriMet builds a light rail bridge.

You can get TO Harold from the north but the crew has a chunk of jersey wall right on (or just off) the sidewalk. I don't know how much of the path they're blocking on the south side of Harold. I should go down and take a look.

You can sign up for alerts about the Green Line construction at trimet.org . That's how I found out about the 205 interruptions in the first place.

Did they lay down lanes up on the hill near Johnson Creek Boulevard?

The Tri-Met pdf specifically states they are not changing Holgate-Foster. The road is too narrow.

Actually, it comes to a dead end at Stark/Washington, and the hill on the south side starts long before JCB. JCB is near the middle of the hill, but it keeps climbing past that up to Otty Road, where 92nd becomes Bob Schumacher Drive.

The Harold closure began on Monday, two days ago. First of many, I guess. I'm not taking 92nd - too hilly for me. I come off the Springwater Trail to the 205 trail, so I'm now detouring down to King / Causey and cutting through the CTC parking lot to get to the trail again at I-205 and Sunnyside. On days when I feel daring, I sometimes take the bike lanes on 82nd that run from somewhere between JCB and King to just past Monterrey.

One thing's for sure - the closures will be a pain.
