I wonder if Starbucks enjoys any of the grant money for alternative transportation insentives? I think this is headed up by Metro... Can you imagine Metro rifflinig through Starbucks books?

I love the headline for this article, "Schizophrenic Starbucks?" The authors do a good job at maintaining objectivity, but the headline is revealing. One who is "schizophrenic," as it is used in the pop-psychology meaning here, is going in two different directions -- doing two opposite behaviors -- at once, without any purpose. Could Starbucks really be putting its money behind pogressive causes at the same time that a rogue manager is taking out a personal vendetta against an enthusiastic cyclist? Waaa...
This kind of journalism is a joke. Take it from someone who woks in the corporate wold: Starbucks funnels its MAKETING BUDGET into what it knows the public perceives as progessive causes because it hopes these endorsements will distract the average joe (pun intended) from failing to realize that it is the epitome of the multinational juggernaut, ripping off third-world farmers while reaping gigantic profits and putting local merchants out of business. Simply put, Starbucks is the Wal-Mart of coffee! They've got an asshole for a manager who gets paid to do the same thing the rest of them do: Hammer down the nail that stands up above the wood and keep the money rolling in. There is nothing schizophrenic about this.
But it's in the best interest of someone out there to make you think there is...who?
