 Just got into cycling with the help of Bike Gallery and am curious whether there are any active locale road biking groups that are more suited o the beginner?
We live in Troutdale and just did the ride to and from Multnomah Falls (Old Scenic Hwy), and did the Bridge Pedal.

Hey there-

My club (Portland Velo) has a Saturday ride that begins at Longbottom Coffee and Tea every Saturday morning at 9:00am (will move to 10:00am when standard time comes around). We usually have 70-90 riders show up and we split into groups depending on your ability level. Our slowest group averages about 14-15 MPH and we make sure no one gets lost or dropped. Check out http://www.portlandvelo.net for more info.

That's exactly the kind of group I was looking for. Thanks!;)

Being new pick a group ride. You have several options check out the Vancouver Bike Club. Also the Portland Wheelman not there ABC ride or Suite youself ride. Bud Rice leads alot of group rides and that is how I got started. But if you dont mine the drive check out Portland Velo. You have to remember most riders have been riding all summer so you will be playing ketch up.

I've been riding with the Community Exchange Cycle Touring Club for a few month. These are good folk and offer a weekly ride (Sundays) leaving from downtown Portland for both beginners and intermediate riders.
You can sign up on their Yahoo Group for event notification:

I've also noticed that Steven posts some of their events here as well.
