View Full Version : Advice on bike trip

My wife and I are planning a bike trip in Portland next month. We'd like to ride donw the coast as far as Florence or Reedsport, jog over to Eugene, then ride back up north to Portland. Thing is, we DON'T want to ride from Portland to the coast. What would be the best way to get to adults and two bikes (boxed or assembled) from Portland to Astoria or Manzanita? Is there a bus service? Should I hire a car? Some other option? Appreciate the info. Thanks.

Tillamook County runs a bus between Portland (Union Station) and the city of Tillamook on the coast. http://www.tillamookbus.com/ 503-815-TCTD (8283)
Reservations are reccomended. Fare is $10 one-way, $15 round-trip. It runs twice-daily Mon-Sat and once on Sunday. All buses are equipped with bike racks.
Amtrak runs a daily Thruway bus from Portland Union Station to Seaside and Astoria. http://amtrak.com 1-800-USA-RAIL The bus leaves at 6pm and costs roughly $20. To bring a bike costs $5 extra, and the last time I used the bus service (between Seattle and Vancouver) the bikes needed to be boxed. You can buy bike boxes from Amtrak for $10
