I remember some mention here of Axiom (http://www.axiomgear.com/products/gear/bags/) waterproof panniers as a less-spendy alternative to Ortliebs.

Their website is, um, "Canada-centric" with no mention of U.S. distribution.
Are Axioms available locally? Thanks!

I have a set and love them. There is a lady who sells bike stuff online out of Bend that I got them from. It was last year so I dont have her contact info anymore but I think I found her on ebay. She gave me a great deal.
In fact just a few hours ago I ordered a pair of their Typhoon panniers from ebikestop.com. They were $80 + $12 shipping. A neighbor of mine just bought a pair and I was impressed with their quality. Their mounting method is bungee-based as opposed to Ortlieb's locking mechanism, but otherwise I think they are practically clones of the Ortleib Back Rollers.
Universal Cycles in NW Portland has them, but they are $115. That price difference was a bit too large for me to ignore. I just realized you could try price-matching them though.

The Typhoon panniers arrived today. They are as nice I expected them, and quite roomy. I'm happy to answer any questions about them in this thread.
My grocery store runs are about to become more productive. :D

Just got mine, too. They easily swallowed up laptop, power supply, lunch, files, etc.
Plus, they're red.
Doesn't take much to get me excited! :D
