My husband was hit Monday night on King street in Beaverton just off of Denney. It's a residential road. He was maintaining a straight line, just going down the street, and a driver backed out of her driveway on his right hand side and into him. When he saw she was backing out and not stopping, he had very little time to react, but he started to veer left. She struck the side of his bike toward the back with her back bumper, and his body careened forward. He landed on his left elbow and rolled onto his back. No broken bones, thank goodness. Scraped up, though. My question for everyone is this: We contacted her insurance to have them cover a trip to the doctor and replacement of the digital camera he had in his backpack that totally broke. Her insurance told us we have to go through our insurance first, and our insurance will contact her insurance. But it's our car insurance, and he was riding a bicycle. Does this sound right to you guys? Is this typical procedure? Your advice would be very helpful, as we'll be on the phones with the adjusters over the next couple of days.
