View Full Version : PSU to Capital Center
I would like to get from downtown to the Capital Center at 18640 NW Walker Road in Beaverton. Can anyone suggest a good route. I am happy to get up and over the west hills, but would like to avoid death by massive west side arterial particularly since I will be heading out there during rush hour.
Thanks for the help!

go over the hills by your climb of choice - Broadway/Patton, Montgomery, Washington Park..., working your way west to the Sylvan overpass.
Follow the Sunset Bike Path to its western terminus.
You'd be fine at this point following the Worst Day of the Year Ride Dan Henrys, until they tell you to turn north off Walker Rd. Stay on Walker Rd; be aware that west of NW 173rd, the bike lane vanishes for an uncomfortably long time, and there are two narrow bridges. The bike lane will re-appear a bit before 185th. Take the lane on those bridges.
Other east-west choices are Jenkins/Baseline, or Cornell, but in terms of traffic and arterialness, they are about the same. I don't think there is anything else that goes through, really.

Yeah, the easiest and quickest way is probably take the Hwy 26 path until you pass 217, then follow Park way to Walker Rd, and follow Walker the rest of the way out.
The bike lane on Walker is pretty good & comfortable out until 173rd - but, it is an arterial.
If you're set on avoiding Walker Rd, then there's a much more meandering path that you could follow that goes something like this: take Park Way past Cedar Hills, then cut right up to hit Butner at Huntington. Cross Murray on Butner & follow Downing->Meadow->Pioneer and then through the THPRD terpenning complex to Blueridge.
follow Blueridge -> Mission Oaks, to pick up the Powerlines park path up, either at the powerlines, or at the end of mission oaks cul de sac, and take that over to 173rd. From 173rd, follow Autumn Ridge -> Fieldstone -> 183rd. Then just get on Walker Rd long enough to cross 185th, and you're there.
you should be able to use this map to sort of trace out those routes:

hmgf, the route up through Washington Park to the Zoo (on Kingston) is reasonably pleasant & i think tolerable at rush hour. You drop down a bit past the Zoo (an unfortunate loss of elevation), then continue climbing on Canyon Ct. just on the north side of Hwy 26. At Sylvan you access the path, cross over 26 at the cemetery bridge, then continue west on Pointer Rd. (?) -- it becomes a path, which is the path on the link that hemp22 sent. The rest of the route, as hemp22 described, is for the most pretty quiet.
here's access to all the online bike maps if you need it:
The route info is much appreciated!
