View Full Version : oppose massive car park in downtown vancouver

07-01-2008, 09:01 PM
Todd Boulanger sent this out to the vancouver BPED group, it is great that they might put in some bike parking, but the addition of 400 stalls to the downtown vancouver area will harm bike/ped safety in the area.

The meeting is wednesday july 2nd from 7-9pm.

FYI – the Public Library + RiverWest project is a great opportunity to get better public and private secure bike parking for Vancouver’s City Center. The City is underwriting the cost of the portion of the parking structure for public parking (up to 400 stalls) at the Library.

Public Meeting
Wednesday, July 2, 2008 7:00-9:00 p.m.
Vancouver Community Library
Library Hall (lower level), 1007 E. Mill Plain Blvd.

Please attend or email your comments (newlibraries@fvrl.org), so that this portion of the project is improved.

The initial public meeting for planning the library there was a strong public request for improved bike parking in the public structure and in the plaza. This was especially requested to serve families using the library and for youth too…since most are not allowed to drive yet.

Background Riverwest
Riverwest is a $165 million public-private mixed use development that includes four multi-story buildings. In addition to the new main library of the Fort Vancouver Library system, Riverwest will offer a new civic plaza, 200 multi-family residences, 100,000 square feet of offices, 17,000 square feet of retail, a boutique hotel and a 900-stall underground parking garage. Water features, public art and greenspaces will also be featured in this project.

Construction is anticipated to begin in late 2008 and continue into 2011. The City proposes to use the combined State and local LIFT Program revenues from within the RDA to finance the purchase of 300-400 parking spaces in the proposed parking garage.
