Hi all,
I am moving to Portland in June and it is my second season cyling. I am a strong rider and would love to try racing on a team. I have no ideas how to go about this and would love some feedback of where I shoud start. [/b]

Hi wonderwheels,

OBRA is the Oregon Bicycle Racing Association and they are a great group of folks. Here's a link to a list of local teams on their website:
http://obra.org/teams/index.html

Also check out the OBRA email list:
http://obra.org/email_list.html

There are many great beginner-friendly events to try. Especially this one:

There's also a woman's racing clinic coming up on May 20-21 at the Swan Island Criterium. Here's the link to more info:

Portland has a great racing community...have fun!

If you are looking for a team to join, look at Team Oregon (teamoregon.org). I went on my first ride with them recently and they are a really cool group, and there were several women on the ride as well.
If you are a strong rider, this may be a good group for you. There are clubs in the area as well.

Hi wonderwheels,

Welcome to PDX! I just did my first race two weeks ago, (I had a blast!) but I have been on the email list for a local women's team calles Sorella Forte (Italian for Strong Woman) for about two years. There's both a recreational and racing component to the group. There are training/recreational rides most Saturdays. The senior members of the group often put on racing clinic both in class and on-bike (there's one this Sunday) covering both bike handling skills and team tactics. Right now there are also hill interval work out session going on Thursdays in preparation for the Mt Tabor race series in June.

Check them out at http://www.sorellaforte.com You can join the email list by sending a message to sorellaforte-subscribe@yahoogroups.com

Happy riding,

Kronda
