While riding on SW Barbur Blvd into Portland today, I noticed this small tree starting to grow out into the bike lane.

Then I realized that it was a wild hawthorn. I don't know about you, but I don't like having sharp objects hit me in the hand, or face... I also am not too keen on having their roots tearing up the sidewalk or bike lane.

I whipped out my pruning shears, and a couple of minutes later, the problem was resolved. It did get manage to get me... but I'll heal long before it does.

Now that hawthorn won't have a chance to grow up big and dangerous.

You carry pruning shears? Any way we can warn motorists not to annoy you?

I see the Fox 10 O'Clock News story now. Irate Motorist in Stable Condition after accosting Bicyclist. Fade to witness: "He was yelling at some biker about getting off the road, and next thing I saw, he was down and the biker was calling 9-1-1."
