Hi I'm new to Portland and was wondering if I could get some advice on how to get to Lake Oswego from NW Portland. Either all by bike or part bike part public transportation. If somebody could post a gmaps pedometer rout that would be awesome. I ride fixed wheel 48x17 or 19 if that helps choosing a route.

Check out the multitude of maps at the first two links on this page:

I would take Broadway downtown to Terwilliger, the entire way, but definitely not a flat route.

Welcome to Portland! Where even some clean-cut fixies have fenders...

You might want to put on a 39 or a 42 tooth chainring if you plan on riding a fixie. The hills aren't particularly steep, but they are fairly long. The steepest and longest stretch is coming up Terwilliger from Lake O, northbound.

It's a nice ride, though. The off-street trail that winds through Tyron Creek park is lovely. Just keep an eye peeled for joggers and walkers.

barber is easy and i ride it fixed a lot (42 by 18 ), and then i proceed up and all the way down to the point where barbur crosses I5 at the 99W exit off of I5, turn left then take lesser road all the way into LO. it pops out in all of the commercial business off of carmen drive. you can then ride down into downtown, or stay in all of the crappy stripmall areas. beware though, my worst driver experiences have occurred in LO.

As for your gearing, that is a mighty tall gear for 500 feet of climbing both ways.

Thanks for all the info.
I don't think I'll have a problem with 48x19 (only 5 inches more than 42x18)
Think I'll try out the Barbour route then through Tryon Creek then to Country Club where my destination is. Well off I go! Thanks again!
