View Full Version : Fanno Creek Trail in Winter?

I was talking to someone the other day and they told me that the Fanno Creek Trail had flooded under one of the bridges.
Before I commit to a commute, I need to know is this common?

There's a couple of spots that get large puddles, mostly the tunnel under Scholls Ferry Rd and some spots between Scholls and Hall.
The worst place is that tunnel (it really isn't a real tunnel, just an underpass-- and it's dark under there, whether it's sunny or cloudy)... the other potential flood zones are more like easily passable puddles.
Caveat: I haven't been on the trail during the worst of winter, this is just what I've noticed this past weekend.
Watch out for clueless people who let their dogs roam off-leash--- my boyfriend t-boned a dog who wandered across the trail in front of him. Luckily for both, Scott was going slow enough that he didn't crash and the dog didn't get injured, but the two teen girls walking the dog were freaked out.
You won't be able to go as fast as you want on the trail, and there's a lot of places where tree roots create some serious bumpy spots, so be careful!

You could call Tualatin Hills Park and Rec and ask about the flooding potential. They maintain the park.
I ride through the area between Scholls and Hall nearly every day. It is a very pleasant stretch, but it does flood several times a year when it is raining real hard. I once found myself out there in the dark in 2 feet of water laughing at myself.
may i recommend phil's waterproof grease...

Tried the Fanno Creek Trail tonight...
Hit a Pothole, Nearly Drowned... ;)
Several large, but shallow puddles on the trail itself... and the Scholls underpass was deeper than I wanted to mess with. Had the trail to myself though...
I'm now on the market for rubber overboots.

It's dark, and wet outside on my homebound commute now...
I don't like playing with Hwy 217 under those conditions, so I hit the trail again.
The creek flooded sometime recently, and the underpass is again covered in a fine (slick) mud.
Hope you have fenders...

I rode the Fanno Creek Trail Jan 2nd on my way home from work...
I didn't ride through the water (much), and managed to keep my shoes and socks dry... I took a series of photos, and using a new panorama software program, managed to "stitch" them together...
Check 'em out if you want...
Here is just one of them...
This kind of flooding makes me wish I had a canoe...
My commute on Friday...
Don't forget your PFD's
