source for a used road bike

I've been a runner but I've now developed a stress fracture in my lower leg twice in the last two years so I've decided I need to try something less stressful on my bones... Time to bike!

I'd like to find a used road bike for around $300 but am not sure where to start. I've been looking at craigslist but I don't really get a warm fuzzy feeling. It seems like alot of people trying to pass of junk and/or overpriced bikes. Does anyone have any recommendations of reputable bike shops who deal in used bikes or recommendations where to look? I'm after something for fitness rides & occasional commutes. The good news is I'm particularly drawn to the aesthetics of older lugged frames vs. the newest carbon framed whiz-bang bike!

I echo nuovo...City Bikes has some decent entry level bikes in the $500 dollar range as well as used. I think Sellwood has better quality used.

yeah, it would be hard to find a bike at Sellwood in that price point(good shop though). I agree with City Bikes, you could try your luck at Community Cycling Center (17th, Alberta), the bikes there are by way of donation, so not allways in super shape and most likely older, they do have mechanics that can help though. On Sandy, between 52nd and 54th NE is a shop called Hollywood Cycle (across the street from Bike Gallery) he (Bill?) sells used bikes. Make sure the bike fits you though, otherwise you will still suffer from pain and injury, I have gotten flack by suggesting going to a bike shop with the bike and having someone expirienced with fitting check things before, but if you PM me I will tell you what shop I work at and you can come in and I will help you out (I don't mind)
