Update on Single Speed ‘Cross Championships

Posted on October 8th, 2007 at 3:17 pm.

I heard from Dani Dance this morning. She’s organizing the upcoming Official UnOfficial Single Speed Cyclocross World Championships.
When I first mentioned this event back in July, I didn’t have many details and now I’ve got the latest scoop.

Dance says the event will be held in tandem with a Cross Crusade race on November 10-11 […]

The 2007 Cross Crusade kicked off in fine style yesterday at Alpenrose Dairy. Race organizers reported that a record 1,078 racers took part in the action (that’s up from 760 at the same event last year!).
The course was a challenging mix of bumpy downhills, […]

Prepare yourselves. The Cross Crusade — the world’s largest cyclocross series in terms of participation — kicks off this weekend at Alpenrose Dairy.
The event is going to be insane. Last year they had over 800 racers at Alpenrose and I […]

[This is the third report in a series on learning cyclocross by contributor Stephanie Chase. Read the other two here and here.]
I run like a fairy. Seriously. Stick me in a tutu, cue “Swan Lake,” and I would fit right in; except for the fact that I’m in cycling shoes, sweating, awkward, […]

By Stephanie Chase

[This is the second in a series on learning cyclocross by contributor Stephanie Chase. Read the first installment here.]
The morning after my second ‘cross clinic, I woke up with various bike parts impressed on my body. There was some tire tread on my right shin, a pedal slash on my right knee, […]

All signs point to a huge cyclocross season this year.
Cross bikes are flying off the shelves of local shops, the first Alpenrose Cyclocross Clinic had a record 149 participants, and Saturday’s inaugural Kruger’s Kermesse race — the first chance to race cyclocross bikes this season — had over […]

“Walk before they run”: My first cyclocross clinic

Posted on September 10th, 2007 at 7:39 pm.

I’m so embarrassed. I’ve lived in Portland for three years and — as of last week — had yet to try cyclocross. This is Portland, after all, home to one of the most enthusiastic cross scenes in the U.S., and home to of a number of notable pros such as Ryan Trebon, Erik Tonkin and […]

With the Portland-area road racing season all but over, the buzz about ‘cross season is coming on strong.
Local ‘cross lovers can be found any night of the week honing their skills in parks around the city. Last night, I saw a guy practicing dismounts and […]
