The officially unofficial Singlespeed Cyclocross World Championships (SSCXWCXPDX) are now nothing more than a memory — or a hangover if you were lucky enoughy to be out there.

In what can be described as a bike race like no other (or as “Burning Man on bikes” as one cycling media outlet called it), yesterday’s main event crowned two new havers-of-the-obligatory-tattoo-and-wearers-of-the-golden-speedos, Jessica Cutler and Adam Craig.

Intrepid photographer Rob Kerr (Rob Kerr Photography) was there to capture the scenes…

May want to take a closer look at the shot of Adam leaving the bus… Or maybe you are aware of it. Just thought I’d say something. Was an awesome day of racing / whatever the other half of people on the course were doing!

Disappointed to see so many riders out in kits/skinsuits.

Yep! Definitely don’t want to see any nipples. Unless they are on an obese man. Then it’s perfectly fine.
Kids will be traumatized to know that women have nipples too.

Hmm, only shirtless I guy I see in these pictures is quite thin and facing away from camera…. But sure, a shirtless guy is totally on par with a female stripper.

Knowing women have nipples and seeing them in sexual context are different things, btw.

Also, I don’t really care about the picture being here… Just wanted to point it out in case Jonathan posted it unintentionally. (I didn’t see any mention regarding potentially inappropriate images so wasn’t sure.)

I mean… I was at the race, saw plenty of mild nudity and am aware these pictures are a general recap of all aspects of the weekend. Was just surprised to see a specific picture of the stripper bus given the usually cautious nature of the blog. I personally wouldn’t choose to take or use that picture but I’m sure Jon got the gals permission to use nude images of her on the internet so just a matter of personal preference really… Fine with me.

Hmm, looks like a picture of a topless girl standing in a bus – what exactly is inappropriate about it? What if it was a guy standing topless in a bus? Would you assume he was one of the strippers – and more importantly, would you have warned Jonathan? After all – a shirtless guy is totally on par with a male stripper (I could feel your smugness and condescension as I read that above. Well done!).

BTW – It’s a tiny picture with an even tinier amount of nipple in it. Obviously you care or you wouldn’t have brought it up.

You cannot tell me there is not a double standard when it comes to public nudity.

What’s inappropriate? Well the fact you are legally required to be 18 to go into a strip club would set some precedent to the situation. Not aware of an age requirement for seeing a guy with his shirt off or someone drinking alcohol… “Topless girl standing in bus” haha I guess technically yes, but your very naive if you think that’s all that happening in that situation.

If it was a male stripper with hardly anything clothing on and dancing with the implied purpose of sexual arousal then yeah I would probably say something. And no, a shirtless guy is not on par with a male stripper just like a shirtless female is not the same as a female stripper.

And yes there absolutely is a cultural double standard towards male and female nudity (sorry?). Again though, this isn’t just some gal watching the race without a shirt on… It’s a stripper.

*you’re

And you can tell she’s a stripper from the picture how? I’m curious what about the picture tells you that she is there for “the implied purpose of sexual arousal”? What if her nipple was covered and she was trying to arouse men?

And since you like to point things like this out, there is a big difference between a picture on the internet and a strip club. Maybe all the WNBR pics should be censored just in case some of the men/women are trying to arouse others at the particular time the photo was taken.

I understand that you were at the venue and you know that the bus was a mobile strip club of sorts, but that is all out of context when just looking at the photo.

With no background information, this is a picture of a topless woman at an event where there are topless men as well. But this photo is considered “inappropriate”.

Lastly, I cannot speak for the dancers, but I would highly doubt that they were dancing for “the implied purpose of sexual arousal”. Do you honestly think these ladies and gentlemen were thinking “yeah, gonna get these cold muddy bike racers so turned on!”?

Are there other reasons besides sexual ones that strippers dance?

If it was a completely out of context photo of a woman in that attire just standing next to the course I would have been surprised but likely not said anything. The fact that most everyone looking at these images are familiar with the event and the context of this photo doesn’t make it just some random picture. It’s in the background of an image where the main subject of the image is exiting a place with relative privacy when compared to the rest of the venue. The fact that you may not notice the woman at first glance is what led me to at least bring it to Jonathan’s attention in case he didn’t see it and would not want it there. But by now it’s obvious he is fine with it. I’ve never once asked for it to be taken down or even given a NSFW warning, despite my personal take that it’s a bit crude.

Sorry that life isn’t as black and white as you’d like it be.

Yeah I don’t see any nipple. She is wearing a pasty.

Also, I didn’t even notice the shot until Brad brought it up 🙂

Will have to check out the stripper bus next year! Maybe SSCXWC should have a naked lap a la PIR?

Exactly why I don’t see this as a matter of “can you see her nipple or not?”. Much larger scope of context to what makes an image potentially inappropriate to a viewer.

As far as I know, this is an event on private property that participants pay to enjoy. This event has also been promoted as having an adult party theme…., for years. That being said, it would be assumed that perhaps one should think before bringing the family out. Your prudish mincing of facts reminds me of arguments that were proposed against public dancing in the 1920s. I’m at a loss to even understand what it is your trying to prove. People are going to continue to find humor in the risqué aspects of our human nature. Postmodern agendas to define and control behavior will backfire far worse than 3000 of religious idiocy . Hell, I believe if John Waters released “Pink Flamingos” today, there are some in my social circles who would want to see him dead. I never thought the world would get so stupid. No one knows how to laugh anymore.

This has been blown completely out of context. Brad simply stated that he wanted to make sure Jonathan knew what was in that picture he posted on his website (this is no different than the critiques and comments about wording that people post about every other article on this website). He didn’t make this a commentary about right or wrong or talk about how disgusted he was with the picture. He’s stated he was at the event and has no issues with it. He is simply trying to look out for Jonathan as he usually puts up NSFW disclaimers on threads with those kinds of photos.

Come on people, we need to get back to bashing this event for it’s sexism! /s/

Would be surprised if someones private farm would become a public space because of an event like this happening on it…

All this and nobody pointed out that the worlds best Cyclocross racer Sven Nys (in a special PDX kit, and the world’s best single speed cyclocross racer Adam Craig are in that picture. So amazing!

It’s awesome that Sven was there, and some of the GIFs going around of him riding the “lake” are incredible. Just an awesomely skilled rider (who likely chose not to win to avoid the tattoo).

Posters on this site must try harder to not use the word “awesome” so much. It’s irritating. Kind of like talking to someone who keeps saying “you know.”
