Industry Ticker: Parts distributor Cyclone Bicycle Supply growing locally and nationally

Portland-based bicycle parts distributor Cyclone Bicycle Supply is experiencing a major growth spurt. The company just finalized the purchase of Action Bicycle USA, a distributor based in New Jersey. The acquisition will significantly expand Cyclone’s dealer network both in terms of volume and geographic coverage.

Cyclone currently has about 2,000 dealers with most of them west of the Rockies. Add that to the 1,000 dealers on the east coast they just took over as owners of Action Bicycle and Cyclone now has over 3,000 dealers nationwide.

In addition to growing their dealer network, Cyclone is also doubling their Portland warehouse space from 50,000 to 100,000 square feet and hiring new sales reps.

Check out more about their growth in the company press release below:

Cyclone Bicycle Supply has announced the recent acquisition of Carlstadt, NJ based parts & accessories distributor, Action Bicycle USA. Beginning February 1, 2016 both locations will operate as Cyclone Bicycle Supply.

In operation since 1988, Action’s product development success and commitment to service make a perfect complement to West Coast based Cyclone’s ordering technologies and logistics network. Since opening its doors in 2003, Cyclone has grown steadily year on year, expanding its reach from the Pacific Northwest to the West Coast to Nationwide. The addition of Action’s dealer base, and its east coast distribution facility will solidify Cyclone’s coast to coast reach.

“Ralph Zotta and I met in early 2015 to discuss working together in a way that leveraged both of our strengths. At Cyclone we’ve been working hard to level the playing field for IBD’s with tools like our Cyclone Bike Shopper App, giving retailers the ability to virtually expand product selection without expanding in-store stock levels, creating a huge opportunity for the IBD retailer.Meanwhile, Action has created great in-house product lines with good value for their customers. We plan to expand both. All house brands will continue under Ralph’s guidance and you will see our ordering technologies and shipping options expand in the next year,” Erik Deeter – Cyclone CEO”

In 2016, retailers will see an immediate increase in delivery and service options – Cyclone will offer “same day” ordering/delivery to Portland and NYC/NJ metro area accounts, one and two-day ground shipping to the major metro areas of both East and West Coasts, as well as reduced ship times to Mid-West and Texas. Cyclone will expand selection at both warehouses to stock the core product that Cyclone is known for, as well as key product from the Action catalog.”

I have a bike repair business–Cyclone is by far the best SRAM and Kool Stop source I could deal with.

Correlating this with the new product review, which is from Cyclone: http://bikeportland.org/2015/11/06/product-review-turn-siri-into-your-mechanic-with-the-otto-tuning-system-167611

Congrats to Cyclone! Happy they are supporting BikePortland and happy they are growing. It’s good news for all of us.

That’s the unbiased reporting we all have come to cherish from BikePortland!

Bikeportland regularly favors advertisers in their content. I’ll give a few examples:

1. Western Bike Works opens a new store in Tigard.
2. Showers Pass introduce Cascade Collection.
3. RiverCity Bicycles sells a $20k bicycle.

One wonders how any of this is even “news” and, more importantly, why. There are loads of Portland companies in the tourism, racing, and tech (no, not hardware) fields that seemingly don’t merit mention despite being huge contributors to Portland’s economy and culture.

That is why the disclaimer is funny. It’s complete BS – that press release was published because they are an advertiser.

I suppose it’s fine to do that. Just don’t claim to be ” an independent…news source.” You can do better than republishing PR – Bikerumor.com are experts at that already.
