Welcome to your menu of weekend rides and events, lovingly brought to you by our friends at Hopworks Urban Brewery.

It’s a big weekend ahead. It’s time for the annual Trail Fest from NW Trail Alliance and we get started first thing Friday after work with some good, old-fashioned bike activism on SE Clinton Street.

Friday, September 12

Clinton Social Ride – 5:00 pm at SE 15th and Clinton
Join this non-confrontational ride to raise awareness that Clinton Street is a bicycle boulevard, not a cut-through street off Division. According to ride leader Brian Sysfail, “The neighborhood really likes our vibe and our actions have worked in raising awareness.” More info here (FB).

Forest Park Night Ride Poker Ride (MTB) – 6:10 pm at Western Bikeworks (NW 17th and Lovejoy)
Show up early for pre-ride swag and good times, then roll up to the Thurman gate Forest Park trailhead. Make sure to bring a good light. Participants will seek out five checkpoints and receive cards for their poker hand. More info here.

Aftermass film screening – 7:00 pm at Clinton Street Theater (2522 SE Clinton)
Filmmaker and Microcosm Publishing founder Joe Biel will present an encore of his documentary, Aftermass: Bicycling in a Post Critical Mass Portland that traces the history (and future?) of Portland’s bike activism scene. It’s a very relevant topic given the conversations we’ve been having here on the Front Page. More info here.

Keg Bike Challenge – 7:00 pm at Piccolo Park (SE 27th and Clinton)
A local homebrewing supply store has some extra “homemade hooch” that needs drinking, so what better way to get rid of it than invite a bunch of bike riders to help out. Hosted by PDX Bike Swarm. More info here.

Saturday, September 13

Tigard Tour de Parks – 11:00 am at Tigard Public Works Bldg (8777 SW Burnham St.)
The City of Tigard is hosting an entire day of bike fun for the whole family. There’s a Youth Bike Safety Rodeo at 11:00, followed by the Tiny Tots Ride and the main event, the Tour de Parks. More info here.

Stub Stewart Group Ride and Tour – 10:00 am at Hilltop Day Use Parking area
Join Northwest Trail Alliance for lots of fun on the trail and freeride areas at Stub Stewart. More info here.

NW Trail Alliance Trail Fest Bash – 6:00 pm at Velo Cult (1969 NE 42nd Ave)
Hosted by Velo Cult, NW Trail Alliance, and Portland Design Works, this party is guaranteed to be rocking. The free pizza and beer starts at 6 and there will be a “kiddie krit time trial” at 7:00. Expect a big prize raffle, lots of socializing, a DJ, and movies on the big screen. More info here.

Sunday, September 14

Western Bikeworks Shop Ride – 10:15 am at NW 17th and Lovejoy
Ride leader Maria Schur will says this month’s ride will be 30 hilly miles; but don’t worry if you’re not in great shape, there will be plenty of regroup spots.

Doggie Bike Social – 2:00 pm at Sellwood Riverfront Park
Dog lovers unite! This ride will start near Food Fight on SE Stark and then roll to Sellwood. After some good fun at the off-leash area, join the ride back to Lucky Lab for food and drink. More info here (FB).

Kidical Mass picnic dinner with the Chapman swifts, Sunday 4-8pm
http://kidicalmasspdx.org/2014/09/10/picnic-dinner-w-chapman-swifts/

“This month’s Kidical Mass ride is a 4+ mile one way jaunt across town to see the Chapman Swifts in action. Sunday, September 14th from 4-8pm.

“Meet at Abernathy Playground (SE Elliott Ave & SE Birch St… in Ladds Addition) at 4:00pm. We’ll let kiddos play for a bit before we roll out. Due to the distance of this ride, it may not be suitable for kids on balance or small pedal bikes. Our destination is Chapman Elementary School in NW.

“Bring a picnic dinner, cardboard for “sledding”, and your wits to get you and yours home. This is a one-way ride because people may linger longer or shorter to watch the swifts, get home for bedtime, etc. Also, don’t forget lights. Sunset on Sunday is about 7pm.”
