Welcome to your menu of weekend rides and events, lovingly brought to you by our friends at Hopworks Urban Brewery.

Yes, yes, we know Pedalpalooza starts today and fills the entire weekend with dozens of bike rides… But believe it or not there is a world of bicycling beyond that joyous kingdom of bike fun. So, we present to you a carefully considered selection of rides and events that you won’t find on the Pedalpalooza calendar.

(Program note: We’ll be posting a Pedalpalooza Preview each Saturday morning beginning this Saturday.)

Open House at Nutcase Helmets World HQ – 6:00 to 10:00 pm at SE 11th and Division
The Ford Building at SE 11th and Division is hosting an open studio event that includes the headquarters of Nutcase Helmets. Drop in from 6-10:00 pm for a behind-the-scenes look at this great local company that sells helmets to bike riders across the globe. More info here.

Northwest Trail Alliance Sandy Ridge Shuttle Day – 9:00am – 4:30pm at Sandy Ridge MTB Area

This is a fundraiser for the NW Trail Alliance’s work at Sandy Ridge. You show up and pay them to shuttle you and your bike up to the top of the trails and all the money goes toward keeping the trails in awesome shape throughout the year. Pioneer Century – Starts from Clackamas County Fairgrounds (694 NE 4th Ave, Canby)
This is the 40 annual Pioneer Century, a ride that, for many people, signals the start of the summer riding season. The five routes trace the history of the Champoeg, Canby, and Molalla areas — and offers stunning vistas of Mt. Hood. There’s even a family ride this year. I’ll be at this event shooting photos so if you see me, smile! More info here.

Sorella Forte Women’s Ride – 9:00am from River City Bicycles (706 SE MLK Blvd)
This weekly ride is open to everyone and led by members of the Sorella Forte Cycling Team. There are two options, a shorter/easier route and a faster/longer route for more experienced riders. More info here.

Gladys Bikes Grand Re-Opening Party – 4:00 to 7:00pm at 2905 NE Alberta Street
Gladys Bikes has moved to a nice and shiny (and larger!) new spot on NE Alberta and now that all the boxes are unpacked they’re ready to celebrate. Join them for great deals, drinks and treats, a photo booth, and even a huge prize raffle that will benefit Oregon Tradeswomen Inc. More info here

Blessing of the Bikes – 2:00 pm in the courtyard of St. Mary’s Cathedral (1716 NW Davis St.)

This annual event is a solemn reflection of those who have lost their lives while bicycling. The program will also include blessing of riders and their bicycles. More info here.
