We’ve had some sunny and warmer days, there are some fun rides and events on the calendar, and it’s been forever since I posted one of these… So here you go: An open thread to share your bike adventures, promote your events, reflections on the week’s news, or whatever. Impromptu exploratory overnight camping trip to Sunset Falls Campground in Gifford Pinchot N.F. (Clark County). Meet Saturday morning (14 April) at Parkrose TC/MAX station at 10am. Approx. 40 miles one way. Bring all the gear you need to camp comfortably by bike!

Midnight Mystery Ride leaves from the Filmed by Bike after party at Apex tonight at midnight.
I keep getting told that this was a mild winter, so what gives with Larch Mountain? As of last week, it was blanketed by a couple inches of white on the other side of the gate, and it’s not until mile 8 that there’s ANY snow on the road.
Err, I’m specifically curious how soon I can expect to finish the last 4 miles. Troutdale alone is a 40 mile round trip, and it’s a ways up the highway from there.
It’s very typical that road is not snow-free until some time in May.
51 cyclists, ranging from first-year riders to veterans, rode out of Champoeg State Park for a 16mi/38mi ride through French Prairie today on our weekly Tour de Cure Oregon training ride.

Bike Milwaukie holds it’s monthly ride on Sunday. Leaving Milwaukie City Hall at 9:30am, the ride will take us out to the 3 Creeks Natural Area, the setting for the documentary film ‘Lonely Tree’ about a poorly planned road project in Clackamas Co. We hope to see you for a fun, informative, family friendly ride.
It’s a bike and hike so dress for a muddy patch or two 🙂
Great ride this morning on the road bike…. Started at Peninsula Park, then north on Willamette to St Johns Bridge, up Germantown, north in Skyline, down Newberry, back home via Hwy 30 and same way I went out. Saw lots of folks out and about and counted yard signs… Jefferson Smith had the most, followed by Charlie Hales and then Eileen Brady.
Now I’m headed down to Oaks Bottom/Sellwood with the kids! Yeah for spring!
We took a look at some routes and decided we wanted to try and hit the 205 path from Marine drive, out from St. John’s. It looked as if there were a part of Marine drive that just had a bike lane right past the Expo Center, for about 33 blocks, and then turned in to a dedicated MUP. Heading west past the Expo Center we went about 5 “blocks” on Marine drive, and with heavy traffic(this was Friday), semi-trucks, and a very narrow “Bike lane” that was made up of mostly puddles, gravel and other debris, we decided to turn back. The lane was also about half as wide as other bike lanes in town.
We doubled back and realized we’d never biked to Vancouver across the I-5, and so did that instead.
The new signs out there are pretty helpful, but we did miss one, and had to double back a little to get on the bridge. Then onto the I-5 bridge, which was narrow as heck on the east side. We tooled around downtown for a while, milled about, and came back and found the west side of the bridge was much more pleasant, a little wider, and even bicyclists heading into vancouver seemed to use this on the way over to the other side.
So…a little frustration, and a little exploration! And holy cow how out of shape we are!

Went out to Sandy via the Springwater/Dodge Park blvd/Lusted rd/Ten Eyck rd, and back via Bluff road. Good day to be out in the ‘country’!
