I’ve put together another scintillating selection of cycling events for your perusal and planning purposes. Check them out below and let me know if I’ve overlooked anything.
All Weekend
60th Annual Greek Festival
This is one of Portland’s most beloved ethnic festivals. I wouldn’t usually post something like this, but organizers contacted me to make sure folks knew that this year they’ll have tons of bike parking set up just for the event (thanks to BikeRacker of course). Roll over for a great time and you won’t have to worry about finding a parking spot. Details here.
Friday, September 30th
Cross Kickoff Party
Join Corsa Concepts for a celebration to kick off the cyclocross season. There will be lots to drink and plenty of hot-shot bike racers to rub shoulders with. You’ll also learn more about the Cross Crusade, Gran Prix Molly Cameron and of course there will be door prizes. Party is at Upper Echelon Fitness (1420 NW 17th) from 6:00 pm to “empty kegs.” More info here.
Saturday, October 1st
Bike Ride for Mark Bosworth
Join Mark’s family and friends for a bike ride to help raise awareness of his disappearance. The ride leaves Peninsula Park at 10:00 am and heads north for Kelley Point Park. The route is one of Mark’s favorites. Download PDF of ride map here. Learn more at FindMark.org.
Take a Kid Mountain Biking Day
Want to introduce your kid to off-road riding? This is a perfect chance to do it. Join the Northwest Trail Alliance at Stub Stewart State Park (just 30 miles or so west of Portland) for a full day of fun and riding led by expert guides. There’s even a big BBQ at the end. There’s also an event at Lacamas Lake if Clark County is closer for you. More details at NW-Trail.org.
Canby Cross-Word Cyclocross Challenge
This ‘cross race in Canby (about 30 miles south of Portland) looks very fun. As a reader tells me, “The course uses part of a kart track, motocross track, and has two river crossings. Looks awesome!” I agree. Racing for all levels. Check out the race flyer and show up early for a hot breakfast.
Portland By Cycle Autumn Rides
Join City of Portland bike fun superhero Timo Forsberg for a recycling-themed jaunt around northeast Portland. The ride will be a casual, leisurely pace and will leave Irving Park at 10:00 am. More details here.
Dinner and Bikes Tour
Elly Blue, Joe Biel and Joshua Ploeg have been traveling the country talking bikes, sharing great food, and watching videos about bike activism and culture. Their tour ends in Portland Saturday night and it’ll be a party not to miss. Bikes for Humanity Work Party
Join a great local non-profit for a work party. Bikes for Humanity needs your help to set up a new work station in their shop, do some basic maintenance on their donated bikes, and various other things (whether you can turn a wrench or not). Check out their website for more details and they ask for an RSVP with your pizza preference!

Cross Crusade Series Opener
This is it folks, the Big One. The series opener at Alpenrose Dairy in Portland’s southwest hills holds the record for largest number of participants at a cyclocross race. Last year over 1,500 people lined up to race. It’s a thrill whether your race or watch. More info at CrossCrusade.com.

Per the map it looks like the Find Mark Bosworth ride is a loop going just to Peninsula Crossing, and not all the way to Kelley Point.
I just got the following from EPAP Bike:
“3rd Annual Sacred Spaces Ride, this Saturday, October 1st, from 9:30 am to Noon, starting and ending at the Eastminster Church, 12505 NE Halsey. For early arrivals, there is also a free breakfast at 9 am.
The ride is about 14 miles on mostly residential streets in northern East Portland, and includes a labyrinth, a sacred druid grove, an Orthodox church, a Lutheran church, and several other sacred spaces. The ride is lead by our own Brian Heron, recently returned from a 74-day bike tour of the western US.”
Also Saturday — East Portland Sacred Spaces ride.
