Pedalpalooza Daily: Saturday, June 18th

We’re about half way through 2011 Pedalpalooza… and from the looks of the ride reports and photos I’m seeing, folks are just getting warmed up! Tonight is of course the big night. World Naked Bike Ride gathers at 9:00 and leaves at 10:00 from SE Water and Salmon.

The naked ride might be the main course, but there are several scrumptious appetizers throughout the day. Have a look at all the great rides and events below…

9:00am Circumnavigate Ross Island by Bike
Meet at Portland Boat House, 1515 SE Water Ave (Just south of the Hawthorne Bridge)
Let’s ride around Ross Island! Springwater, Sellwood, and the west bank. Riding with us will be representatives from Willamette Riverkeeper, ready to answer any questions about the river or restoration efforts. We’ll be back in time to cheer off the Paddlepalooza ride, as well.

9:30am Bike Cargo Trailer Design Summit
Meet at SE 13th Ave and Miller St (Near Grand Central Bakery)
Bike trailer designer Len Rubin hosts the second of two Bike Trailer Roundup events. Today will be a Bike Cargo Trailer Design Summit. Event will offer the chance to meet other users and designers, check-out & see photos & demos of the vast spectrum of commercial offerings, regional trailers from smaller fabricators and interesting custom, one-off and home-built trailers) at Len’s home in Sellwood. Come over for coffee and donuts! Check out our collection of trailers, share your own trailer(s) & trailer ideas with others. Rain or shine.

10:00am Bikes for Humanity Volunteer Repair Clinics
Meet at Community Exchange Bike School, 4038 SE Brooklyn St,
Bikes For Humanity (B4H) is a community service project aimed at providing the public affordable refurbished bikes, repair classes & workshop space. We have 100+ donated used bikes & need volunteers to catalog, clean and refurbish the bikes for a bike adoption event in July.

11:00am 7A+ Ride
Meet at Peninsula Park, 650 N Ainsworth St (gazebo)
An Awesome Architecture–Airport Arboretum–Ah-mah-zing Apparel Adventure, PLUS cruise an off-road bikeway, bike a dyke on the slough, and cross two super bridges! Bring picnicky food if you like (arboretum has picnic tables and we’ll be hungry) and some dinero if you plan to do more than window-shopping at the MLK Fashion Plaza. Looping ride; leisurely pace.

11:00am Madison’s Joyride thru Central Portland
Madison’s Grill, 1109 SE Madison St
Prizes, food, and special on New Belgium beer at Madison’s at the end of the ride. Not a timed event but kind of like Amazing Race. Teams of 4 riding to different stops along the route. The winning team enjoys big prizes; everyone enters a raffle & gets food & beer at the end. A film of the ride will feature at New Belgium’s Clips of Faith.
$15/person for BTA members
$20/person for non-BTA members
$40/person gets you on the ride & a BTA membership
Register online ahead of time. Part of the proceeds to benefit the BTA.

12:00pm Rocky Butte Ride and Service Project
Meet at Oregon Bike Shop, 418 SE 81st Ave (81st and Stark)
We will be meeting in front of Oregon Bike Shop and ride out to Rocky Butte and clean up some garbage for a couple of hours, then ride around and explore what the Butte has to offer. This is part of a continuing project, to raise awareness of the Rocky Butte natural area and the potential for urban recreational possibilities that exist out there.

12:00pm The Red Balloon Ride
Meet at the lippman company, 50 SE Yamhill St
tie a red balloon to yr bike. ride around on the esplanade and water front between the hawthorne and steel bridges. steal, pop,wheel and deal your way to be the last kid with the last red balloon. winner receives a red balloon. berets and turtlenecks optional. rain or shine.

12:00pm Ellie’s Ride
Meet at OMSI, 1945 SE Water Ave (Near submarine on Esplanade
Fun, slow-paced family ride with kid friendly music and BIG BUBBLES! OMSI to a few random fountains downtown for a splashy good time! Bring your swimsuits and towels. We’ll stop at Saturday Market briefly to refresh at one point and link up with Star Wars vs. Star Trek ride

1:30pm Paddlepalooza!
Meet at 345 NW Everett St
Bring your boat to the river by bike! We will meet at the West end of the Steel Bridge pedal upstream and go PADDLE downriver! Dinghys, skiffs, kayaks, prams, dorys, catamarans and inflatables welcome.

1:45pm Kidical Mass PDX: Pedalpalooza Hoedown
Meets at Overlook Park, N Fremont St and Interstate Ave
Kidical Mass’s monthly ride will take us in a 3-mile loop, and in the middle, we’ll meet up with Portland’s own Professor Banjo calling a wild & crazy family square dance in a top-secret location, just for us! Bring treats & sweets to share, and come ready to dance!

2:00pm Star Wars vs. Star Trek Ride
Meets at Director Park, SW Yamhill St and 6th Ave (Look for your kind.)
In a quadrant far, far away, where stars and bicycles collide, come be a part of the greatest battle this side of the outer rim. Are you a stormtrooper, or a redshirt? Do you pledge to the Federation, or to the Empire? Does your bike travel in hyperspace, or warp speed? Put on your best space garb, shine up your two-wheeled spacecraft, and blast your way through Portland on the nerdiest ride of Pedalpalooza.

3:00pm Mel Blanc Tour
Meets at Lair Hill Park, SW 2nd Ave and Woods St
Mel Blanc, “Man of 1,000 voices,” best known as the voice of Bugs Bunny and a host of some of the most popular Looney Tunes voices and personalities, grew up and developed some of his memorable voices right here in Portland! Join historian Dennis Nyback (collector of rare, forbidden and forgotten films and fascinating morsels of Portland history) on a tour of Mel’s Portland. Be prepared to discover some quirky facts of Portland in the late 1920s and early 1930s!

3:45pm Portlandia Ride
Meets at Lovejoy Fountain, 222 SW Harrison St
We go back in history to find out how it all started, stop at landmarks large and small; And throw in some interesting tidbits.

4:00pm Roman Patio Pedal
Meets at The Green Dragon, 928 SE 9th Ave
We’ll go until it’s time to hit WNBR, or you’re finished. We had fun last year-Let’s do it again! Assemble your toga, gladiator gear, centurion armor or whatever Roman and join us for a leisurely ride bar patio to bar patio. On arrival, the patio will be transformed by our presence into a Roman Villa. With Beer! Gladiatorial Combat? Chariot Races? Could be! Or not. But drinks and Roman debauchery are guaranteed. Maps provided at first bar. Then we’ll head to the WNBR and off go the togas!

4:00pm Vancouver Velo Vino Tour
Niche Wine & Art Restaurant, 1013 Main St., Vancouver WA
Meet at Niche for a glass then off to other locations. Ends at Niche too. Join us for a tour of Vancouver’s wine bars in the westside. Wine and food will had on the ride. Please bring a helmet and lights for your bike and cash for any food and drink.

9:00pm World Naked Bike Ride
Meets at SE Water Ave and Salmon St
Gather at 9, Ride at 10pm. A light-hearted protest against fossil fuel. A demonstration that any body can ride a bike and have fun doing it. A comment on the vulnerability of cyclists. Choose your message, ride with us! As bare as you dare.

9:00pm World Clothed Bike Ride
Meets at Vera Katz Statue, SE Eastbank Esplanade and Main St
Sometimes “as naked as you wanna be” is everything covered but your face. Now there’s a ride and party for the rest of us! Woot!

10:30pm WNBR Unofficial After-Party Big Sweaty Dance Party
Crystal Ballroom, 1332 W Burnside St
Crystal Ballroom–Lola’s Room. Large indoor capacity, opening at 10:30pm exclusively for WNBR riders. Clothing optional/naked-friendly. DJ Jason Wann, DJ Rhienna, DJF. Free. 21+ with ID. Bike parking along Burnside and 14th overpass. Enter through Lola’s room; depending on occupancy, may flood into Crystal Ballroom when at capacity. Big sweaty dance party.

11:30pm WNBR Official After-Party: sponsored by BridgePort
BridgePort Brewing, SE 2nd & MLK Blvd (Under the Hawthorne Bridge)
Official After-Party for WNBR featuring suds on tab from BridgePort Brewing, Music from DJ Gulls, Food from Koi Fusion, Garden State & Whiffies. Our friends at the city fo Portland have been kind enough to let us close down a major streetto party but have asked that all attendees wear bottoms. Just bottoms. No shirt? No problem.

11:30pm WNBR Unofficial After-Party PRIDE Edition
Weird Bar, 3701 SE Division St
Medium/Large indoor venue with patio. 21+ with ID. Free. Clothing Optional/Naked Friendly. Pride Edition. VJ and Karaoke.

11:30pm WNBR afterparty- BYOB all night dance party
Meet at Salmon and the Eastbank Esplanade
Since the other afterparty options might leave something to be desired (put clothes back on!?!?, lack of capacity? expensive drinks…) North Freak and the Dropouts (organizers of two of the biggest parties of Pedalpalooza, Prom Ride and Loud and Lit) are teaming up to put on an afterparty in the spirit of the WNBR. Free. Open to all. Dance it up! BYOB! We will have booming sound systems, and a beautiful, scenic, secluded outdoor location. It will go untill the sun rises. All are welcome (except creeps!). Wear as much or as little as you like. Bring your own beverages of choice.

There’s a mistake. Director Park is on 9th and Yamhill, not 6th.

I didn’t bring any cash with me to the ride (no pants pockets!). Is the poster going to be available for purchase over the net?
